Headwaters Launches Open Mic Season with Garrett Raddatz’s Eclectic Sound

Headwaters Music & Arts is turning up the volume on community creativity with the return of its beloved First Friday Open Mic & Coffee House, kicking off the season on Friday, September 5, from 6:30–9:00 pm at 519 Minnesota Ave NW, Bemidji.

Held monthly from September through June, this volunteer-powered event offers a welcoming stage for musicians, singers, and spoken-word performers of all ages and experience levels. Whether you're a seasoned artist or testing the mic for the first time, Open Mic is a space to share, connect, and be inspired.

September’s featured performer is Garrett Raddatz, a Bemidji-based multi-instrumentalist whose genre-blending style and soulful energy light up every stage. From bass to piano to his signature melodica, Garrett’s performances are playful, heartfelt, and always entertaining. His musical journey began in a traveling family band, and today he brings that same spirit of joy and exploration to each set.

Want to perform?

Sign up for a 10-minute or 2-song set by contacting volunteer coordinator John Henningsgaard at jjhgaard@gmail.com. In-person sign-up begins at 6:30 pm, with the show starting at 7:00 pm.

Admission is just $4 per person or $10 per family, with proceeds supporting Headwaters’ youth programming and scholarships. Coffee and treats will be available for purchase from Apple Blossom Village.

Open Mic thrives thanks to the generous spirit of volunteers—emcees, sound techs, and setup crews who make the magic happen. Interested in lending a hand? Call Headwaters at (218) 444-5606 or email John at the address above.

Come for the music, stay for the community. Let’s kick off the season with creativity, connection, and a whole lot of heart.
